  • study and learning options throughout the European Union

Professional recognition in regulated professions

The Directive for a General System information centre (IRAS) provides assistance to migrants who want to practice a regulated profession abroad (EU country or Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway). A regulated profession is one to which access is regulated by law. In other words regulated profession can only be ractised by people holding a particular national diploma. IRAS provides information on whether or not professions are regulated, who the competent authority is, who you must contact, requirements imposed on access to the profession etc. IRAS works in conjunction with Colo and is accommodated at the Nuffic. For more information on professional recognition, see www.beroepserkenning.nl.

Careers guidance

The Euroguidance network promotes careers guidance in vocational education with a European dimension. European integration means Dutch people no longer have to undertake their education and training in their own country. They can now follow all or part of their studies in other European countries. Nevertheless the numbers of people taking up this opportunity are still too low. The European Commission wants to increase these numbers in the coming years.

It is for this reason that a European network of National Resource Centres for Vocational Guidance, or Euroguidance network, was set up. The Dutch Euroguidance organisation is part of the Leonardo da Vinci programme and its tasks are as follows:

  • to provide information on training opportunities in the Netherlands to people from other European countries who would like to train in the Netherlands
  • to inform Dutch people on training opportunities abroad by referring them to other Euroguidance organisations
  • to promote the European dimension in careers guidance in the Netherlands by, among other things, referring careers advisers to the opportunities in other countries via publications and the Internet
  • to create contacts between careers advisers from the Netherlands and other European countries. Euroguidance Netherlands organises study trips and conference attendance

All Europass centres

Europass is supported by a network of National Europass Centres (NECs).

A National Europass Centre (NEC) co-ordinates activities related to the Europass documents in every country in the European Union and the European Economic Area. You can contact the NEC for more information about Europass and access to the Europass documents that you do not (yet) have.

Its main tasks are as follows

  • administration of Europass documents
  • promotion of the Europass and Europass documents
  • setup and management of the necessary information system
  • provision of information about Europass
  • networking at European level

In the Netherlands, the activities and tasks relating to the Europass are divided across eight bodies who together make up a strong consortium in the education and labour market. Within this consortium, the Information Management Group (IB Group) has been appointed the National Europass Centre.
