For job seekers

Language skills are essential for studying and working in Europe. When applying for jobs internationally it is particularly important to give employers or training providers a clear idea of your language knowledge. The Europass Language Passport uses a number of questions to enable you to describe your mastery of the various European languages. It contains comprehensive details of your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and can be used as extra information in addition to your CV.

It is based on the widely-used Common European Framework of Reference (CEF) and therefore is not a recognised certificate awarded by a school or training provider. The Language Passport does not prove that you have learned a particular language anywhere.

The European Language Passport has been developed by the Council of Europe as part of the European Language Portfolio which comprises three documents: the Language Passport, the Language Biography and the Dossier. These documents and more information are available under the “Complete your Europass Language Passport” link.
We advise you to read the “self-assessment matrix" carefully before completing the Europass Language Passport online. This matrix can be found with the completion instructions.
